Opportunity Details
This opportunity allows the volunteer to directly assist the PA Senior Food Box program coordinators in processing their program applications. The PA Senior Food Box Program is a federally-funded program that is designed to improve the health of low-income seniors by supplementing their diets with nutritious food. Among the types of foods included in the food boxes are: non-fat dry and shelf-stable fluid milk, juice, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, dry beans, peanut butter, canned meat, poultry, or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables. Currently, Second Harvest serves 2,475 individuals each month. We rely on a dedicated group of volunteers to distribute the senior boxes each month.
The applications for this program are many and often overwhelm the program coordinators. The volunteer would be assisting the coordinators in successfully processing the program applications and communicating their status to the people we serve. This would require the volunteer to have basic data entry skills, comfortability working in an office environment, and commit to about 10 hours a week in person at the food bank, 6969 Silver Crest Road, Nazareth, PA 18064.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
