Help adult students to strengthen their literacy skills and improve their lives through education. Become a Volunteer Classroom Tutor!
Classroom Tutors support student learning by assisting instructors in Adult Basic Education, GED® Test Preparation, or English as a Second Language classes. In-person and Remote (online) classes are offered. Program goals include strengthening students' basic education or English Language skills to support their successful transition to postsecondary education, credential programs, job training, and career-path employment opportunities. Classes are held at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Southside Bethlehem.
Classroom Tutors will:
Have good reading, writing, and speaking skills in English. A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Previous teaching or tutoring experience is a plus, but not required.
Attend a Volunteer Tutor Orientation workshop, which includes a program overview, information about adult basic education, and volunteer opportunities in our program. Participants will also complete required volunteer tutor paperwork.
